RECYCLING

Do you get sick of being told to recycle properly? If the recycle bins were emptied weekly instead of fortnightly it would help. Do you agree?

Totally agree. My recycling bin is continually overflowing. It gets to the stage where lm putting recyclables into the regular rubbish bin. If they want us all to continue recycling, they have to help us out with a weekly service.

Absamalutely. You should be careful with your recycle though, if there is just a little bit of putrescible rubbish mixed in, they’ll send the whole load down to landfill.

I wish the Vic government would catch up to S.A. and offer 5 cents back on drink bottles. In SA you never see recyclables in public bins, plus quite a few homeless people live off the money they make from picking up recycling. (I worked at a school in SA and there was this guy who would go around every day after school and collect drink containers from the outdoor bins. He reckons he made between $20-$30 a day and it only took him 20 mins. )

I agree as well. We are a family of three and we still manage to have ‘overflow’ of matter to be recycled every week which have to be held over to the next empty date two weeks later. It really lacks foresight by the Council. Fine, good marks to them for encouraging recycling, but only emptying said recycle bin once a fortnight brings frustration, and leads to more being put in the non-recycle bin.

We had the same problem (family of four) both bins overflowing - until we did a budget and started planning our meals, then noticed we had half the rubbish we normally had, both garbage and recyclables. I had no idea we used so much stuff and wasted so much money on food we never ate. Maybe we should call it “the rubbish bin diet” we’ve lost weight and so have our bins!

Should of considered getting a bigger recycling bin.

Have to agree, can’t do my bit, and now i have to bin it.

There are companies who will come around and remove extra rubbish for a fee. I have a hessian bag that gets emptied once a month for the extra stuff that I can’t put into the recycle bin. If there is nothing in it, I am not charged. Google for it.

I have a larger than average family (seven kids) and i have been reduced to “topping up” our neighbours recycling bins.

Great to get others feed back. I also use the neighbours recycling bin, got a larger bin and cannot afford to pay someone to come and collect the overflow. The council wants us to recyle they should empty our bins every week, we pay our rates and those who rent, well the owner of the property pays the rates so no excuses, councils get off your backsides and do the job you were elected to.Represent your entire community, end of story
