I’ve never been to Bright but everyone has always said its a lovely place. when my children were young I used to take them to Phillip Island or Dromana. it is lovely around there but I haven’t been for years.
we went to Ocean Grove over Christmas and stayed in the caravan park right on the Barwon river. We all had a great time. The Barwon river is great and on the other side was the back beach which was great too.
We also love camping on the Murray river near Echuca
A few years back we hired a house in Venus Bay that looked out onto a field filled with kangaroos and a lovely old horse we called Mr Ed. At that time Venus Bay was a very peaceful place and we spend alot of time fishing at Anderson’s Inlet. I have fond memories as this is where I caught my first rainbow trout.
Another great venue for a chill out is Raymond Island. You can only reach it by taking the car ferry across to the island, which takes less than 5 minutes! The island was full of lorrikeets and koalas. Just beautiful! However, both of these places require you to make your own fun as they are laid back, quiet places. Great for those who just want to unwind and chill out.
Another quiet and - until now - secret place is Cape Conran, which is past orbost in the state’s far north west.
You have to go in to a ballot for a Christmas spot in one of the seven cabins. Cabins have wooden floors, two loft “bedrooms”, woodfire heaters (not required in summer), well-equiped kitchens, a refrigerator, shower and toilet. And there’s a communal laundry. Camping is available, too, though. Just minutes’ walk from the beach, you reside in the Cape Conran Coastal Park.
When we went this summer, there were even a few educational activities for the kids - environment based; rock-pool rambles, nightlife walks, mammal mumbles.
