computer keyboards

Most of you who have read my nook comments will know that I am on L plates with the internet and computers. I am absolutely mortified at the moment because the letters are being worn off my keyboard. At school typing was not one of my favorite subjects and I was continually having a piece of cardboard placed over my typewriter so I couldn’t see the keys. I was and still am basically, a one handed typist. Anyway when computers hit the scene I was too scared to even try as I had no idea what to do, (still learning as we speak).I got a little confidence and decided to buy a Laser VOIP keyboard. I thought it was so cool not even my kids knew how to use it properly (I finally got one up on them). Not only did the keyboard and mouse feel nice to use but the built in speakers and microphone are great as well.Shock, and Horror set in yesterday when I noticed my letters A S E T N C are all wearing off. Of course I will contact the manufacturer as I only bought it 4 months ago. It is now taking me twice as long to write anything as I have to look down and check I am using the right letters. If they will not do anything does anyone have any ideas of what white liquid I could use to write the letters back on? I cannot afford to buy another keyboard and I need to use my computer each day for my voluntary work I do for a couple of organizations. I am thinking maybe liquid paper but it comes out too thick with both the brush type and pen type. This is a disaster for me as I have to proof read everything I write again at the end. The spell check does come up but once again it is too time consuming. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can buy fine paint pens in white, maybe one of those ?

Demand a refund - if one did it, they’ll all do it. My $10 keyboard copped a hemmering for 4 years and when I replaced it it still worked fine and had no faded letters. Maybe you put on hand cream before typing ? Still, it shouldn’t have mattered. I’ve typed with motor oil on my fingers, then used solvent to clean up and the letters did not fade.

I would take the keyboard back, that is definitely not normal wear and tear. Even some of the cheapies last better than that!

Take it back, my last keyboard had no sign of wearing after 31/2 years of hammering from the kids and I, it only died when a drink was spilt on it. Worse case senario if you can’t get it exchanged what about stickers with the letters written on.

Suggestion: Don’t go for the all-in-one fancy keyboards. :) I tend to stick to the keyboards that are only used for typing. Doesn’t even have the new fangled multimedia keys on it. You can pick them up for real cheap, probably less than $20. And if they last you 3 - 6 months at least it’s not a waste of money.

I would contact the manufacturer or retailer and try to get a replacement or a refund.

If you’re looking for a replacement keyboard, here are few you can use as a benchmark price wise:

    Good luck. :D

Hi all, thanks for the advice. I emailed the manufacturer and complained and was given a new keyboard delivered by courier 2 days later with a full apology. If anyone here works for the Laser Corporation you should be proud to work for the company.Even though a product slipped through quality control they didn’t treat me like a number, they answered my email immediately and then replaced the keyboard without hiding behind any red tape and took full responsability. My response as a consumer is rare these days when there is very little good customer service left. So Laser hold your head high for doing the right thing.
